Legal Experience:
Prior to working for Contego Law, James has worked for a number of small boutique law firms. He worked for the Law Offices of Donald Hunsberger, where managed the Estate Planning department, focusing on complex estate and tax matters for high-net-worth clients. Dougal then spent some time with Cagswell Nakaswa & Chang, where he focused on Admiralty and Maritime Law. His work with Admirality & Maritime Law continued while he managed the department for Herrick & Nikas, LLP. James also worked for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, where he spent a year in the Juvenile Division. Dougal also spent some time with the Office of Governor Pete Wilson. He earned a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Chapman University School of Law in 1999, where he was elected to the elite Taxation Law Program and earned honors in Estate Planning. While attending law school, Mr. Dougal was Founder and President of various law societies, including the Federalist Society, Entertainment & Sports Law Society, and Tax Law Society. He was also actively involved on the Mock Trial Team, and Advocate for the Honor Council, and Editor on Law Review for two consecutive years. James was also a representative for the U.S. Tax Court Clinic.
Business Experience:
James was retained by Contego Law for his experience as a true entrepreneur with operational experience in various business fields such as insurance, medical, legal, tax, real estate, mortgage, marketing, automobile, and non-profit; including a vast amount experience with start-up companies. Dougal spends a portion of his time managing Dougal Insurance Services, Inc., which specializes in employee benefits and estate planning. He also founded Legacy One Insurance Services, Inc., a national insurance agency which was focused on individual term life insurance. Dougal is a also maintains an interest in California Coast Properties, specializing in the residential market for Southern California coastal areas, as well as Victory Financial, which originates mortgage loans for individuals throughout the United States. James also maintains an active role in Mediatize Marketing, an alternative marketing firm offering solutions via radio, voice broadcasting, and online media. He is currently on the Board of two non-profit organizations: The Happiness Project and United Faith & Family. Previously, James was Director of Insurance Operations with Elite Financial Group LLC, a private holding company and a provider of financial products and services affiliated with the insurance industry. In addition, Mr. Dougal was a Director of Leveraged Life, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Elite Financial Group, which is a national provider of turnkey premium finance programs for the life insurance industry. Dougal has founded and operated a number of small business entities, including Newport Surgical, American Tax Resolution, Twenty-Eighth Street Publishing, Limousine Express, and SC Consultants.
